How to create a Sunday night routine

You’ve likely experienced the Sunday Scaries – that feeling of dread leading into a new week – at one point or another in your life. (We’ve definitely been there!)

But that doesn’t have to be the case. Sundays mark a day to recharge and reset, setting the tone for the coming week. Creating a routine on Sunday nights can help you feel better prepared for the week ahead and ready to tackle the day from the moment you wake up.

We’ve compiled some tips to help you make the most of your Sunday night:

How to create a Sunday night routine

1. Do a quick tidy of your home.

You don’t need to bust out the rubber gloves or vacuum under your furniture, but putting away items in their respective spots can go a long way in feeling like your place is clean. Pick up clothes off the floor (or the designated clothing chair – IYKYK) and put them in the hamper. Bring plates and coffee mugs to the sink or dishwasher.

2. Prepare yourself for the week.

Make healthy lunches ahead of time so all you have to do is open the fridge in the morning. If you’re able to prep your coffee maker with your fave brew, do that too! Plan out your wardrobe for the week and lay out the clothing you’re planning to wear on Monday so you don’t waste any time standing in front of your closet, trying to decide whether to wear that cute sundress or a pair of jeans.

3. Reflect on the past week and organize the week ahead.

If you’re like us, a day planner is always within reach! Figure out your goals and plans for the week, errands you need to run, groceries you need to buy, workouts you’re planning to do, etc. You’ll feel more organized in no time. Also, don’t forget to set your alarm!

4. Wind down with a nice long shower.

Go ahead and pamper yourself in whatever way works for you. Apply a face mask or deep conditioner, use the body scrub you always forget about or simply enjoy the water washing over you. When you’re done, grab your fave lotion so you can wake up to buttery-smooth skin.

5. Relax!

Wind down even further with a podcast or good book (check out the Hustle + Charm book club for reading recos) and a cup of tea. Make your sleep space comfortable with the perfect temperature, dimmed lights and cozy bedding. Turn off your electronics at least an hour before bed (yes, that includes TikTok).

Give yourself time to fall asleep. Getting enough sleep is crucial to your overall productivity, so aim for at least seven or eight hours.

With these five tips, you’ll end your weekend productively and feel better about the looming Monday morning. No more hectic mornings scrambling around–just energy and a little extra spring in your step knowing you’re prepared for the week!
